Saskatchewan vocalist Jeffrey Allan Sawatzky received national recognition at the 2009 Covenant Awards held on October 23 by the Canadian Gospel Music Association in Calgary, AB where his debut CD, Fields of Gold was named Classical/Traditional Album of the Year.

This collection of original ballads and inspirational classics sung in English, Italian and Spanish was recorded with an outstanding group of musicians, including guitar virtuoso Jack Semple, members of the Regina Symphony Orchestra and accomplished soprano Jodi Scott. All musical arrangements are by award-winning Saskatchewan-born composer, Craig Salkeld, who wrote five original songs for this CD.

“My sincere appreciation goes to all the people involved in making this album,” said Sawatzky, who also expressed pride in the fact that the CD was recorded entirely in the province with Saskatchewan-based talent. The independently produced CD was recorded by Dave Fries at Ze Studio near Regina, and was made possible with the generous assistance of private sponsors and an emerging artist grant from the Saskatchewan Arts Board.

Sawatzky, who is also recognized as the official national anthem singer for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, is currently on an extensive tour of the province performing full-length concerts in 15 communities as part of the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils’ Stars for Saskatchewan series.
